Side Bar Story
Our story at Arizona State University is just starting but being able to be a part of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication has already given us so many opportunities as first-year students. Not only does the Cronkite school have classes instructed by current professionals in the field but clubs such as The State Press, Blaze Radio, Walter Cronkite Sports Network and so many more, which makes for a place students would want to come to.

JMC 305: Multimedia Journalism has allowed us to connect our writing, video and audio skills to compose a news story in many different forms of media. When trying to decide what to do with our multimedia package we were stumped but after realizing that 3 originated from the east coast it became clear what we had to write about. We started with the question “Why ASU?” For many of us in the Cronkite school it’s because of the stellar program that is offered but was that the same for the other 79,000 undergraduates that attend ASU? We hopped on the intercampus shuttles and began to explore the 3 other campuses that ASU offers just in the metropolitan area. Looking at the ASU Tempe campus, home to the largest number of students from all campuses, we got the opportunity to interview students from all different walks of life.
Starting off with Raj Giran who originated from India, studying Computer Science at the Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering at ASU says, “There are definitely a lot of people to meet and I am happy with the choice I made.”
Izzy Watts, a Film Production major at the Sidney Poitier New American Film school originally from Arizona picked ASU “mainly because my family lives here and I really love the film program, I think it's really cool and especially with all the stuff they added it's really making me excited for the next couple of years.”
Shea Paredes who is studying Marking at the W. P. Carey School of Business also from Arizona picked ASU because “I’ve just always wanted to come here” and ASU is very enticing for its in-state students because of the price in tuition as well as all the scholarships that each school offers. All goes to show that students choose ASU for different reasons but each student is here to learn, explore, and engage in whatever their future endeavors might be.
